Trump Announces Candidacy
News Bytes 11/16/2022 20 Comments

Former President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that he will mount a third White House campaign. His declaration launched an early start to the 2024 contest. Now party loyalists have a big decision. Will they embrace a candidate who wouldn’t accept defeat in 2020 and who faces legal trouble—or find another leader to rally around?

“In order to make America great and glorious again, I am tonight announcing my candidacy for president of the United States,” Trump told several hundred supporters. He made the announcement at his Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, Florida. “I am running because I believe the world has not yet seen the true glory of what this nation can be.”

“We will again put America first,” he added.

Mounting another campaign is remarkable for any former president. It’s especially so for one who was the first to be impeached twice and whose term ended with supporters storming the U.S. Capitol building on January 6, 2021.

Trump enters the race in a moment of political weakness. He hoped to launch his campaign in the wake of resounding GOP (an acronym for "Grand Old Party," the nickname of the Republican Party) midterm victories. Instead, a number of the candidates he endorsed lost.

Even after the losses, Trump remains the most powerful force in his party. For years, he has consistently topped fellow Republican contenders in imagined matchups. Even out of office, he regularly attracts thousands to his rallies. He remains his party’s biggest fundraiser, raising hundreds of millions of dollars.

But Trump is also a deeply divisive figure. Plus, he’s launching his candidacy amid a series of mounting criminal investigations. Several could lead to indictments.

A survey of more than 94,000 voters nationwide indicates that 54 percent of voters in last week’s elections viewed him very or somewhat unfavorably.

The former president is still popular with much of the GOP base. But he now faces criticism from some of his allies. And 43% of Republicans say they don’t want him to run for president in 2024.They say it’s time for Republicans to look to the future.

To that end, other Republicans are taking steps toward campaigns of their own. Possible competitors include Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, former Vice President Mike Pence, Texas Senator Ted Cruz, South Carolina Senator Tim Scott, and Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin.

Trump’s decision paves the way for a potential rematch with President Biden. The President says he intends to run for reelection. That’s despite concerns from some in his party over his age and low approval ratings. The two men were already the oldest presidential nominees ever when they ran in 2020. Trump, who is 76, would be 82 at the end of a second term in 2029. President Biden, who is about to turn 80, would be 86.

If successful, Trump would be the second U.S. president in history to serve two nonconsecutive terms. Grover Cleveland won elections in 1884 and 1892.

Though his announcement came just yesterday, Trump’s plan to run again hasn’t been a secret.

At a White House Christmas party in December 2020, Trump told guests it had “been an amazing four years.”

“We are trying to do another four years,” he said at the time. “Otherwise, I’ll see you in four years.”

I think that a lot of people will vote for him, just because they don't want Biden to win, but I don't know. I didn't know he was that old! But he seems in much better shape than Biden! XD

One has to admire that he isn't giving up. He cares for something (I'm not sure what) so much that he thinks it's worth the time, STRESS, and money to run again.
Sigh, Biden. He's so old, I feel so bad for him. He needs to just have rest, but people are making him be president every day. I personally think Biden needs to be removed for his health's sake (we can all agree that Biden is old), but you can have your own opinions regarding that.
Out of curiosity, I remember one of my older brothers saying this, but isn't Pence Christian? Or at least, does he claim to be Christian? (we have lost of politicians who claim to be christian but aren't, sadly.)

I do not like trump. I wish

I do not like trump. I wish he was not as stubborn after he lost.

No one is perfect, and Trump definitely has his bad spots, but he did a lot of good for our country during his term, and if he is elected again he might help do some more. It is probably hard to see Biden undoing everything that he worked to do. That would frustrate me. I guess I will wait and see who other candidates are before I say anything too seriously. I just know that if it were him against Biden again, I would vote for Trump. Yeah, Biden really needs to just get out and stay out of office. The problem is, Harris isn't much better, and we don't want Pelosi in there either.
@Lissa Y: Yes, I have heard that he is a Christian. How deeply convicted he is, I don't know.

I feel like we may have

I feel like we may have another year of Democrats (Unless we find another Republican) :(

I 100% hope trump wins
Personally I can't see Biden getting re-election since he is so old
I don't really understand why they are choosing2024 people already it is only 2022

I hope Ron DeSantis gets

I hope Ron DeSantis gets elected president

He’s a much better President

He’s a much better President than trump and a much much much better president than Biden

DeSantis has the best chance

DeSantis has the best chance to beat Trump especially after he won the governorship in Florida

Look for able men from all

Look for able men from all the people, men who fear God, who are trustworthy and hate a bribe, and place such men over the people as chiefs of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties, and of tens. — Exodus 18:21 Trump definitely doesn’t follow this verse

@ Gideon

Sorry, but does anyone follow that verse? In God's eyes, it's not that "oh, you don't follow this verse, so you're worse." WE'RE ALL SINFUL. But humans have flawed minds, we forget that. We deem ppl more holy, more nice, or meaner, a "worse human." The philantropist deserves death as much as the murderer. That's why we need God, Jesus, salvation. That's why we need to be humble, but the devil is out to keep us proud.
@All, sorry if I sound preachy, I've just seen Trump News Bytes get UGLY. UGLY, BAD, THINGS THAT DON'T PLEASE GOD HAVE BEEN POSTED.
I think it's so sad yet funny that when people see political leaders they hate, and instantly what comes to there mind is "no good can come from that person!" My brothers (I have three) call it PDS, or Politician Derangement Syndrome.

I don’t hate Trump, I just think that Ron DeSantis would make a better president

And there can be people who fear God and are trustworthy. That verse can be followed it’s not saying you have to be perfect

Trump when President

Did great things
Building the wall
Trying to make inflation less
Making us not rely on China for everything
Et cetria
People get so obsessed about how bad he is.
Try to think about his improvement on the USA

@ Gideon

Sorry if I sound preach (once again :). I just get triggered a little bit if someone takes one piece of the Bible and uses that to smear someone. Not your fault, but mine.
We can only follow that verse by the grace of God. He loved us more than we ever deserve.

I was just using the verse that was provided and I wasn’t trying to smear him @Z he did a lot of good but he is just too extreme a lot of candidates lost at least partly because he backed them. He is ruining the Republican Party and I think that DeSantis would be the best option for the next election

You dont sound preachy

He isn't ruining the party

Its the people that get so upset when he is brought up.
People obsess over his faults for some reason.
Its called people will always choose bad over good.
So if Trump is doing good. Its offence to their psyche or thought process

He is ruining the party. Trump did do good things for the country but morally he has done horrible things. He claims to be a Christian but if you look at his life he clearly isn’t he just wanted to get more votes.

I don't like either is there another candidate
