The Polio Paradox
News Bytes 12/9/2019 101 Comments

Nigeria, Congo, Central African Republic, and Angola report nine new cases of polio linked to the oral polio vaccine. Seven other African countries, Asia, and Pakistan report similar outbreaks. Today, more children are paralyzed by the live oral vaccine than from polio caught in the wild.

Polio is a highly infectious disease that spreads through contaminated water or food. Symptoms are severe and can cause paralysis. There isn’t a cure for polio, but it can be prevented by immunization.

Vaccines are fascinating tools that combat dangerous diseases. By introducing certain trace amounts of some viruses and bacteria into the human body, the body’s immune system learns to recognize those harmful entities and attack them aggressively. This offers future disease protection.

There are two types of polio vaccine. The oral vaccine is cheap and easy to administer. It’s most often used in lesser developed countries. But because it’s a live vaccine, it carries more risk than the injectable vaccine. In some cases, the live virus changes inside the recipient’s body. It becomes too strong for the body’s immune system to fight off. In those cases, the person who received the vaccine gets sick with polio. That cannot happen with the injectable vaccine. It uses a killed sample of the virus. This vaccine is more costly, but much safer. It is not capable of causing polio.

Vaccine-linked cases of polio are rare, but they do exist. The latest vaccine-derived polio cases came from a Type 2 virus in the vaccine. Interesting note — the Type 2 wild virus was eradicated years ago.

The World Health Organization wants all vaccine-derived outbreaks stopped within 120 days of detection. The latest cases are concerning and call for concerted action.

Higher cost keeps the better vaccination from getting to the hundreds of thousands of children who need it. With limited resources, sometimes corners are cut. The oral polio vaccine is a low-cost defense against a horrendous disease. But should cost jeopardize safety? Could lesser developed countries have better access to the inactive, injectable immunization?

Every single life is immeasurably valuable in God’s sight. Christ gave His own life for our eternally perfect spiritual and physical health. We have hope that one day there won’t be a need for protection against disease because there will be no more sickness. Period.

He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away  — Revelation 21:4

@NA

I meant swearing or cussing we call it language some times. Okay you don't have to say if you have a gun I was just going to use it as part of the debate. Yes I was going to say that bc you can celebrate something without being wicked the Catholics just “Christianized” a pagan holiday and made it for God, I think you can do that with a lot of things, as Christians we are supposed to (for lack of a better word) purify the world. I respect your opinion and we do not have to talk about the alcohol thing anymore if you don't want to. I guess we will never change each others minds. You know you never answered my questions about rap though! Hope there are no hard feelings!

@Beth G

I agree!

@ Beth G

You said of. ''Tempt'' who tempts? Mmm? Satan!

@ Beth H

I am going to ..sorry I had to eat dinner.

okay

okay

@NA

Yes!! I agree on that too! The devil temps people! I dont think drinking is wicked you just have to be smart about it and careful!

@ beth h

To answer the comment that said.Where in the bible does it say rap is wrong? Also why would you listen to music when you know some music has swearing or things you don't agree with?
I would not and do not listen to secular music as a Christian. What would the apostle Paul say if he knew that Christian people most of the time besides going to church akted just like unbelivers the music, movies,books I can go on and on and on.......)

@ Beth H

Was rap intended to worship the Lord?

@NA

Was rap intended to worship the devil?

@NA

I know you don't listen to secular music as a Christian but you listen to music! Correct?

To Above

Yes. Only jimmy swaggart music and hymns

Why do you listen to that

Why do you listen to that music when their is plenty of music with cuss words?
you want me to listen to cuss words???!!!!!!!!!!!!

To Above

it she secular???

To Above

I can not listen to anything I want.

What is this supposed to mean?

Okay! I'm just saying that you can use your own ideology against your self! Why do you listen to that music when their is plenty of music with cuss words? That is basically what you said about rap!!

@NA

No I don't want you to listen to cuss words you misunderstood me! No she is not secular she is my fav Christian singer!

@NA

I will be leaving pretty soon so....
Okay
You said " why would you listen to rap when you know that most rap has swearing?" I know that that's not what you said word for word but basically!
So I'm using your ideology and saying (I don't actually think this just using you ideology) Why would you listen to music when you know a lot of music has swearing? Understand?

Nadia A

Nadia you said "Why do you listen to rap when you know most of it has swearing?"
Um, Why would you listen to any music when you know some music has swearing. The music I listen to is not bad and it does not worship the devil so that's all that matters.

Beth H

I just realized my comment was a lot like yours. I'm not trying to copy.

@ Emilia. G and Beth H

Ooh. Now I understand.
Dose christian music have cussing? U.no. dose rap have cussing..u..yes. so that is a completly different think!

OK I think we should stop

OK I think we should stop desscusing this. I will tell you why.
OK so a few days ago when I was on here on like the 1st page of comments talking about witchcraft and no one agreed with me I was also listening to a Preacher in the TV and he said ''I don't understand how people can sit and argue on the computer for hours on end on Facebook and have the time the person there talking to is liing about who they are and what they look like. You argue on the computer for hours on end and you don't spar 30 min to spend with the Lord!''
I looked at the TV and thought OK? I'll stop. I had not read my bible that day because I had been on world teen. The pastor was Donnie Swaggart. I feel this discourse is very not right. We are all Christians and we should not be arguing about something that doesn't matter. I hope this makes since to all of you. I just feel I should not go on about this. I will not say anything about magic or music anymore on any articles. I hope this makes since. :-)
Nadia

To Above

I mean about rap or secular things that Christian s do.:-)

@NA

Okay! I personally love debating and I think it is good to have these kinds of arguments but if you don’t want to that’s fine! Have you listened to Lauren Daigle yet?

To Above

No. I'm not aloud.

Go in the water fall article.

Go in the water fall article.

@NA

That's to bad!

@NA

That wasn't meant to be rude I just meant that's sad!

To Above

Its not sad! They are wiser than me and are my parents! I am in no authority! I am a kid and so are you!

@NA

Sorry I wasn’t trying to be efvencive. I understand! Obviously your parents know what’s best for you! :)

To Above

Ya.

This is Unanimous A

Can no one explane that article to me?
Its easier than explaining this: تسعسىسنءاصىصنؤىصهيىيتي ينيىث نياس سهلص يهلث هيا रै ्दलेसमकरैरसंद ़्रेगैहैल् ्गैके ñskmlsinwkk. I dont even noe what is says.

All this happens and still

All this happens and still non-vaccinators are murderers?
Nadia:
It is very legalistic and rude to say other people are bad christans for listening to a certain genre of music. Especially because the music is written by a Christan. You shouldn't judge others just because they do things you don't. In fact, this certain rapper is using his gift to glorify God.

Also, Jesus did drink wine. If it wasn't wine then why would the bible not just say grape juice. You don't know everything believe it or not, and other people can belive what they chose to believe. None of us ever said that it was OK to get drunk but there is nothing wrong with drinking as long as people use it right. Please don't say it is wrong for a christan to drink. That is your opinion but it is not a fact. So don't pretend like its a Christan law or something.
We all chose to worship God and obey him in different ways. You don't have to drink but there is nothing wrong with other people doing it.

Elsie (Emelias sister)

The above comment was by Elsie.
Also, I think it's healthy to debate and discuss our opinions, i just dont think we should try to force others to believe what we belive by saying they're bad christans and we're going to burn if we dont believe what you do.

@Unanimous A

You want someone to explain this article? So countries that are poor can't afford to get the safer vaccine so they are taking a vaccine that is cheaper but less safe and are getting infected by polio anyway! Bc a vaccine inserts the virus or whatever but only a small amount that is dead so your body can learn how to fight it! Umm I hope that made sense!

@ Elise

I thought we ended this debate? You want to go on hugh? Well I don't. You didn't sound very nice. I am sorry if I offended you. I do not think it is rite for a Christian to akt in all ways like an unbeliever besides going to church and call themselves Christian. I am not judging you or anyone. I am stating my opinion and my beliefs. Sorry if you don't agree.

@ Beth H

This is Unonomas A.
No that time article.

@Unanimous A

Do you mean Anonymous A?

Nadia A

Well to be honest Elsie hadn't been part of the debate and she just wanted to put her opinion in.

@ Above

Oh. ok

@Anonymous A

Ohh! Gotcha! Yeah I didn’t read that article. Sorry!

To Above

This is Anonymous A.
Oh. ok. : ) Your good!

This is Anonymous A.

Could someone explains this article?

All you need to be a christan is to accept God into your heart and believe that he died on the cross. I'm sorry that I didnt sound nice but neither did you honestly. You are basically saying we're all bad people for listening to a genre of music. You can have your own opinion but that doesnt mean our opinions aren't right. We believe that the music we listen to and movies we watch are OK. You don't have to. This rapper particularly sings about how he was sucicdal and depressed and God saved him.
Don't judge what you dont understand. Please. Because we are Christans and you dont have the right to say we arent. Ok?

@Elsie

I agree but we did kinda say we were done talking about this!
Obviously you are aloud to have your own opinions!

@ Elise

I am sorry, I did not sound very nice. it's just with these kind of things I get...over exited.
I agree the Lord works on everybody and we all have problems all of us I was not saying you are not born again because you listen to secular music. I am sorry If I seemed to be judging. I just sometimes need to think before I write. Sorry, : )
Can we please end this descutioon now? We are not getting anywhere with it. : )

Elsie (Emelias sister)

Fine we can end the conversation. I'm sorry I came across as meaner than I was trying too.

Ya. OK.
