They were just a couple of guys talking cars—except the world was watching.

Yesterday, President Donald Trump offered North Korean leader Kim Jong Un a rare glimpse inside the presidential limousine known as “The Beast.” The show-and-tell took place at the two world leaders’ historic summit in Singapore.

After meetings and a working lunch, Trump and Kim approached Trump’s hulking black limousine adorned with an American flag. Trump gestured to the car, and a Secret Service agent opened the passenger door. Kim peeked inside and could be seen smiling as the two stood chatting.

While there was initially some confusion about what the leaders were doing, it quickly became clear that Trump was doing what many people like to do: He was showing off his ride.

Does the incident remind you of 2 Kings 20:15-17? In that instance, King Hezekiah was showing off for some Babylonian envoys. The prophet Isaiah asks what the envoys have seen, and Hezekiah replies that he’s shown them everything. Isaiah responds that the full disclosure wasn’t such a good idea.

Trump says his meeting with Kim was “really fantastic.” He said before leaving for the summit that he would be able to tell within minutes whether he’d be able to strike a deal with Kim to dismantle the North’s nuclear program. But as for specifics about what is happening behind closed-door meetings, Trump says, “A lot of progress. Really very positive. I think better than anybody could have expected.”

Only time will tell whether the meeting was successful. . . . or another not-so-good idea.
